DR SCHOKKER RETIRES Dr G.H. Schokker has retired from the Department of South and Central Asian Languages and Literature (Kern Institute, Leiden University) on January 1, 1995. After having studied Indology in Groningen, Dr Schokker was appointed to the Kern Institute to prepare his PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. F.B.J. Kuiper. In 1958 he defended this thesis žyžmilaka, the Pždatžitaka. A Text-Critical Edition (The Hague/Paris: Mouton & Co., 1966). Appointed lecturer at the Kern Institute in 1965, he grew more and more interested in Old Hindi and bhakti literature. Besides giving courses in this field, he has spent most of his time studying the bhakti literature of North India. The past few years he has been working on texts ascri- bed to Kežavadžs, the results of which will be published in the years to come.
