Domestic and Geopolitical Challenges to Energy Security for, China and the European Union

A Joint Research Programme between Energy programme Asia (EPA)-IIAS and the Institute of West Asian and African Studies (IWAAS)-Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) in cooperation with the Institute of Industrial Economy-CASS.

The research programme has supported by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Social Sciences (KNAW) for duration of three years [September 1 2007-September 1 2010.]

The objectives of this comparative research project are to analyze (a) the geopolitical and (b) domestic aspects of energy security challenges for the European Union (EU) and China and their impact on energy security policy strategies. The geopolitical aspects involve analyzing the effects of competition for access to oil and gas resources and the security of energy supply among the main global consumer countries on the EU and China. The domestic aspects involve analyzing domestic energy demand and supply, energy efficiency policies, and the deployment of renewable energy resources.

The research program is funded by the KNAW for duration of three years [September 1 2007 - December 31 2010.]
